| The Optimist as Leader |
|
Two key leadership skills include decision making and strategic thinking. In decision-making it is vital that leaders think accurately and flexibly, the skills of realistic optimism. In strategic thinking leaders must be future-minded and able to visualise where the organisation is going. Pessimists always visualise in the negative and therefore colour the outcome from its inception. This leads to doubt and hesitation in giving direction and undermines commitment and trust. At a leadership level, this is detrimental and will create a culture of uncertainty and fear which will permeate the organisation at all levels.
